As far as Essential Oils go, rosemary is a powerhouse. This highly versatile oil is obtained through a distillation process using the flower tops & plant leaves. Its distinct fragrance is herby, camphorous, medicinal & slightly sweet. It has an invigorating, stimulating & refreshing quality to it as well.
A native to the coastal regions of the Mediterranean, the name Rosmarinus officials means “dew of the sea.” The herb has a long history in European medicine & culture, which attests to its versatility. The Essential Oil not only helps the circulatory system but acts as a disinfectant & brain stimulant too.

Rosemary’s History & Essential Oil Properties
Rosemary has traditionally been used for enhancing focus, concentration & memory retention, along with treating muscle spasms, arthritis pain, menstrual pain & hair growth.
This Essential Oil contains high levels of antioxidants & has strong antimicrobial properties too. In France, rosemary was burned in hospitals to purify the air up until WWII. It was used as a church incense and seen as the layman’s frankincense as well.
In Hellenistic times, Greeks wore rosemary to improve their memory while studying & taking tests. It was also used to maintain a healthy glow to the skin. Used in a synergistic blend, this antimicrobial and antioxidant rich oil can help you treat a wide range of physical ailments.

How to Use Rosemary Essential Oil
To Relieve Menstrual Cramping: Combine 15 drops of Rosemary, 10 drops of Clary Sage, 7 drops of Lavender, 5 drops of Fennel & 3 drops of Geranium Essential Oils & dilute the blend into 250ml of a Carrier Oil of your choice. Essential Life Aromatherapy recommends using Sweet Almond Carrier Oil, or Coconut Oil that you've warmed slightly.
This blend can be used as a massage oil for the abdomen & lower back when you're suffering from period cramps.
To Fight Off Upper Respiratory Tract Infections: try playing around with this blend & the application that works best for you. Add Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Thyme & Tea Tree Essential Oils to an Ultrasonic Aromatherapy Diffuser & inhale the steam directly. You can also add these Essential Oils to a Carrier Oil of your choice, for a healing chest rub insted.
To Relieve Muscle Soreness: try adding 15 drops of Rosemary, 10 drops of Wintergreen & 5 drops of Peppermint Essential Oils to 250ml of unscented body lotion. If dealing with muscle fatigue from exercise, try adding 20 drops of Rosemary & 7 drops of Lemongrass Essential Oil instead.
To Relieve Arthritis Pain: add 15 drops of Rosemary, 10 drops of Wintergreen, 5 drops of Helichrysum & 5 drops of Sweet Birch to 250ml of unscented lotion or to your favourite Carrier Oil.
To Encourage a Healthy Scalp: add 30 drops of Rosemary, 20 drops of Cedarwood & 15 drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil to your 250ml bottles of shampoo & conditioner. For encouraging hair growth & a healthy shine, you could use 30 drops of Rosemary, 20 drops of Lavender & 15 drops of Clary Sage Essential Oil, instead.
To Help Your Skin Get That Healthy Glow: mix Rosemary, Lavender & Lemon Essential Oil into your night cream if you have oily skin.
For sensitive skin, try Rosemary & Neroli Essential Oils.
For dry skin, try Rosemary, Rose & Ylang Ylang Essential Oil.
To Promote Focus, Concentration & Memory Retention: try this blend in an Aromatherapy roll-on with a Carrier Oil of your choice. Add 15 drops of Rosemary, 7 drops of Peppermint, 7 drops of Juniper & 5 drops of Lemon Essential Oil. Use this roll-on while you study & when you take your test to help you remember the material that you learned.
Rosemary Essential Oil can be overstimulating. Do not use if you have high blood pressure, are pregnant, or suffer from epilepsy.
