Happy Wellness Journey

We all strive for Wellness in our own way every day; that one extra crunch for those abs, that additional mile on your cardio day, a cup of green tea before going to work, taking the stairs to get rid of that tiny bit of flab by the waist, switching diets & gulping juices, all for that well defined body, but let me ask you something – Are you on the right track? Is this the path to wellness? I know most of you would nod your head, would say “yes” & I am not saying you are wrong, but I would like to redefine wellness for you by answering three basic questions. Let’s begin with the key question – what?
What is Wellness?
“Health is a state of body, wellness is a state of being.” ~ J. Stanford
If you google the definition of wellness, google would tell you that “Wellness is the state of being in good health.” Well, it is right, except that we think it has to do only with the body but also with mind & soul, they play a crucial part in your journey to wellness, it is important for the three to be in harmony. Now, since we have established that, it leads us to our next question.
Why are They Important for Wellness?

A healthy outside starts from the inside; it might sound cliched but it is the most ignored mantra that needs to be reiterated. Remember, your body hears everything your mind says; it wouldn’t make any sense to work out for those biceps & abs while your mind is still stressed out agitated by your day to day frustrations from both professional as well as personal fronts. That would only lead to other illnesses, such as heart disease or diabetes, which are contrary to our goals to wellness. Hence, keep your body active, mind still let your soul rejoice in the balance of the two. I know, it is easier said than done but not really. So, how do we get there?
How do We Keep the Body, Mind & Soul in Harmony?

When it comes to your body mind, treat it like a temple where your soul dwells in not like a trash can; accept it at the same time respect it - ‘Keep it good’, that’s the mantra for both body mind; by ‘good’ I mean healthy food for the body positive thoughts for the mind. When these two start dancing together to the same tune, you will see that the soul is entertained thus a harmony is established between the trio.
I had a tough time getting there too, I was on an amazing routine of Pilates combined with cardio an absolutely strict diet but at the end of the day I used to feel stressed out by everything around me, until I was introduced to Yoga in the year 2016. By practicing asanas pranayama I gained better control over my body through Meditation I gained control over my mind; don’t get me wrong, Pilates helped in a way for a while but I guess that just wasn’t enough for me. Eventually, with practice, I learned the art of balancing the body & mind which in turn put the soul in equilibrium. I still work on Pilates thrice a week cardio twice a week.
For those who have just begun their journey to Wellness, I would say take it easy, don’t stress yourself over that extra crunch, that additional mile, whatever you do, all you need to be is consistent with it, even if it is for ten minutes, give it your all, body, mind & soul, those ten minutes are your Meditation moment, a disconnect from the world.
You also don’t have to go tasteless on your taste buds, just eat healthy, the right amount that your body needs to rejuvenate & repair. I even indulge once in a while; a scoop of ice-cream, or cake. If you do too, don't worry, it is okay. Don’t stress about it; I call it feeding the soul. Hence, live in moderation; workout, meditate, eat deliciously healthy & rest when you need to.
