Essential Oils to Help with Alcohol Detox

Featured on The Essential Life

While having a drink or two once in a while isn't very harmful & is typically a part of most adults' social life, excessive alcohol consumption can lead to dependency & alcohol dependency can negatively impact our health in a number of ways.

Our livers take the brunt of the damaged caused by alcohol consumption.  Alcohol travels to the liver through the capillaries in our digestive tracts & effects almost every cell in your liver.  Your liver is the only organ in your body that is capable of producing enough of the alcohol dehydrogenase enzyme to properly metabolise alcohol.

Unfortunately, as your liver metabolises the alcohol that you have consumed, toxic byproducts are produced.  As your liver oxidises alcohol it produces acetaldehyde which is even more harmful to your body than alcohol.  As acetaldehyde builds up in your body, it attacks the cells in your liver & leads to cirrhosis.

The damage that is caused as your body metabolises alcohol will permanently change the structure of the cells in your liver.  As time goes on and more damage is incurred, it impairs your liver's ability to metabolise fats causing fatty acids to accumulate leading to further negative effects to your health.
