Frankincense 101: How to Use Frankincense Essential Oil
You're probably most familiar with Frankincense thanks to its presence in the Nativity Story. Throughout history, Frankincense has been revered as a deeply spiritual oil, which is probably why one of the Three Wise Men thought it would be the perfect gift for The Baby Jesus. It's also a really gentle & versatile oil & it's another one of my favourites.
I'm not partial to most floral Essential Oils &, unfortunately for me, most of the calming & relaxing Essential Oils are from the floral family. Frankincense, on the other hand, has a ton of calming & anti-anxiety properties. It's great for diffusing in your bedroom through the night to help you have a deeper & more restful sleep. As a bonus, Frankincense is also a powerful decongestant which is great if your have a cold.

For patients suffering with Alzheimer's disease, Frankincense Essential Oil can help to slow the progress of the disease & help with memory loss. For maximum benefits, the oil can be diffused in an ultrasonic diffuser. This one is great because it's small & compact which makes it excellent for travel if you're using Essential Oils to help someone who might be in & out of the hospital often.
To relieve arthritis pain, rub a few drops of Frankincense Essential Oil into the affected joints daily.
Frankincense also helps with the treatment of Asthma. Simply add Frankincense Essential Oil to a carrier oil like coconut oil, or olive oil, & massage the mixture into the chest & throat. At night, also rub the mixture into the balls & arches of your feet.
For a persistent cough, add a few drops of Frankincense Essential Oil to steaming water, place a towel over your head, & inhale deeply. Continue inhaling the steam until the water is no longer warm enough to produce it.
Diffusing Frankincense in your home throughout the evening will help boost your immune system. Try this during cold & flu season to keep viruses at bay & to keep your family healthy & happy.
Frankincense is an amazing oil for your skin! To prevent scarring, massage a drop of the Essential Oil onto a cut or scrape.
Frankincense can also reduce acne scarring, & even diminish the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles. Add a few drops of Frankincense to your everyday facial moisturiser & use in the morning & evening.
For tummy troubles, Frankincense can be added to capsules & taken internally. If you don't have any capsules available, add 1-2 drops of Frankincense Essential Out to a single drop of honey or agave, & then add the mixture to tea or a glass of water to ease heart burn & indigestion.
Frankincense can also serve as a pick-me-up when you're feeling a little fatigued, try adding a few drops to your steam shower, or bath water in the morning. You can also massage Frankincense Essential Oil into your scalp after washing & conditioning your hair first thing in the morning. Leave the oil on your scalp & allow it to be absorbed into your body.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR - BRITTEN THOMPSON
Who is Britten? She's a reticent little beast born in the wilds of Northern Alberta to a foul-mouthed, French-Canadian father & an angry, stiff-upper-lipped mother. Britten is, almost always, wild-haired & poorly dressed. She recently left the beautiful & untamed chill of Canada for the blistering & somewhat oppressive heat of Australia. Her list of pastimes is short & includes reading, writing, petting cats, overeating & alphabetizing things. She's a fan of Windex on Facebook because who doesn't want a streak free shine? She dreams of one day writing a super-awesome novel that affords her & her partner a comfortable lifestyle, a large property, a few horses & the means with which to foster children in need...or just becoming a red panda.
When Britten isn't writing, reading, or organizing things in her home, she can be found cuddling with her boyfriend, arguing about why Rajon Rondo is the best point guard in the history of ever, browsing Gumtree for a future cat or kitten, or contemplating days gone by, the passage of time & how ridiculous it is that humans have yet to evolve enough to grow a third set of teeth.
